Love & Houses

This month I wrote a small article for the Dec/Jan issue of The Foothills Times, a local magazine originating from Stokes Co., NC.  The article was about a very special man called Frank Helsabeck.  Here I've included what I wrote.  If you wish to see the rest of the Foothills Times please do! It's a pretty neat little 'zine :). Click here to check out the magazine :)

"If you’re a native of Stokes County, chances are you’ve heard of the infamous Frank Helsabeck and his eclectic hand built home deemed the Helsabeck House.
The home is nestled at the edge of the woods as you approach the end of a country gravel road in Rural Hall.   If you’ve never been,  then you’ve never seen the uniquely constructed wooden and tin structure that Frank calls home,  and therefore probably don’t know why he built it in the first place!  Frank Helsabeck (born September 27th, 1926) originally cut the lumber that now makes up his home, around 1978 in hopes of building a roller -skate rink.  But when that didn’t work out, he remembered a song when he was younger that spoke of a mansion of gold on top of a hill, and decided to build it.  To this day Frank is still taking care of his mirror and light adorned mansion,  pleased with any respectful passerby's company for some ice cream or a Coke.  We should always be thankful for Mr. Helsabeck for the joy he has brought and will continue to bring for many, many years to come."

Hope you liked it :)
